Jamaican All Purpose Beef Patties
These homemade Jamaican All Purpose Beef Patties tuck a rich, warmly spiced beef filling inside crisp golden pastry. They are brilliant for lunches, picnics and relaxed sharing meals, and they freeze beautifully too. It is made especially easy with our Jamaican All Purpose Seasoning.
🧾 Ingredients
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 500g beef mince
- 2 tbsp Jamaican All Purpose Seasoning
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 tbsp tomato purée
- 100ml beef stock
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 2 x 320g sheets ready-rolled shortcrust pastry
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp ground turmeric, optional, for the egg wash
👩🍳 Instructions
- Heat the oil in a frying pan and soften the onion for 5 minutes. Add the beef and cook until browned.
- Stir in the seasoning, garlic, tomato purée, stock and sugar. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until thick, then cool completely.
- Heat the oven to 200°C/180°C fan/Gas 6. Cut six large circles from the pastry sheets.
- Divide the filling between one half of each circle, leaving a border. Fold over and crimp the edges firmly with a fork.
- Mix the egg with turmeric if using, brush over the patties and bake for 22–25 minutes until crisp and golden.
