Hot Curry Beef Keema with Peas
Juicy minced beef, sweet peas and tomatoes make this speedy keema deeply comforting without feeling heavy. The Hot Curry Powder supplies an instant backbone of chilli, coriander, cumin and warming spice, while a squeeze of lemon keeps every mouthful lively.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 500g lean beef mince
- 2 tbsp Hot Curry Powder
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 15g fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp tomato purée
- 400g tin chopped tomatoes
- 100ml beef stock or water
- 150g frozen peas
- ½ tsp fine salt, plus extra to taste
- ½ lemon
- Small handful fresh coriander, chopped
- Cooked basmati rice, to serve
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a wide frying pan over a medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for 7–8 minutes until soft and lightly golden.
- Increase the heat, add the beef and fry for 6–7 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and crumbly.
- Lower the heat slightly. Add the Hot Curry Powder, garlic and ginger and stir for 1 minute, then mix in the tomato purée.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, stock and salt. Simmer uncovered for 15 minutes until thick and glossy.
- Stir in the frozen peas and cook for 4–5 minutes until tender and bright. Squeeze over the lemon and taste for seasoning.
- Scatter with coriander and serve over hot basmati rice.

Spoon into warm flatbreads with yoghurt and shredded lettuce, pile onto a jacket potato, or serve with rice and a crunchy onion salad.
Why This Recipe Works
Browning the mince first builds savoury depth, while the wide pan helps the tomatoes reduce quickly. Peas bring sweetness that balances the blend’s chilli heat.
Allergy Notes
Naturally dairy-free as written. Check the labels on your stock and accompaniments if cooking for allergies.
