Chinese Five Spice Crispy Tofu Bao Buns
Chinese Five Spice Crispy Tofu Bao Buns are soft, crunchy, colourful and made for sharing. Golden tofu is tucked into fluffy buns with fresh vegetables and chilli sauce for a lively meat-free meal.
Made with our Chinese Five Spice, it brings a distinctive balance of sweet, warm and savoury spice to everyday cooking.
🥣 Ingredients
- 450g firm tofu, drained and sliced
- 2 tsp Chinese Five Spice
- 3 tbsp cornflour
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 12 bao buns
- ¼ red cabbage, shredded
- ½ cucumber, cut into batons
- 1 carrot, shredded
- 4 spring onions, sliced
- Chilli sauce and coriander, to serve
🍳 Instructions
- Pat the tofu dry. Toss with soy sauce, then coat with Five Spice and cornflour.
- Heat the oil in a frying pan and cook the tofu for 3–4 minutes on each side until crisp and golden.
- Steam the bao buns according to the packet instructions.
- Fill each bun with cabbage, cucumber, carrot and crispy tofu.
- Finish with spring onions, coriander and chilli sauce, then serve immediately.
