Chinese Five Spice Apple & Plum Crumble
Chinese Five Spice Apple and Plum Crumble is a warming twist on a favourite pudding. The blend adds gentle aromatic depth to the sweet-tart fruit without overpowering the buttery oat topping.
Made with our Chinese Five Spice, it brings a distinctive balance of sweet, warm and savoury spice to everyday cooking.
🥣 Ingredients
- 500g cooking apples, peeled and sliced
- 500g plums, stoned and quartered
- 100g light brown sugar
- 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice
- 1 tbsp cornflour
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 150g plain flour
- 100g rolled oats
- 120g cold butter, diced
- 100g demerara sugar
- Ice cream, cream or custard, to serve
🍳 Instructions
- Heat the oven to 190°C/170°C fan/gas 5.
- Place the apples and plums in a baking dish. Add the brown sugar, Five Spice, cornflour and lemon juice, then toss together.
- Rub the butter into the flour until it resembles rough crumbs. Stir in the oats and demerara sugar.
- Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the fruit.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and bubbling. Rest for 10 minutes before serving with ice cream, cream or custard.

🍽️ Serving Suggestions
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, pouring cream or custard. Leftovers reheat well and also make a rather excellent breakfast with yoghurt.
