Ethiopian-Inspired Berbere Beef Tibs with Peppers

Ethiopian-inspired Berbere beef tibs with seared peppers, tomatoes and red onion on a dark ceramic platter.

This fast Ethiopian-inspired beef dish pairs tender seared steak with peppers, tomato and the warming aromatics in Berbere Spice Blend. Cooking over a high heat keeps the vegetables lively and builds delicious browned edges.

🥣 Ingredients

  • 600g rump or sirloin steak, cut into strips
  • 2 tbsp Berbere Spice Blend
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, sliced
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • ½ lemon

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Toss the beef with 1 tbsp seasoning and 1 tbsp oil.
  2. Heat a large frying pan until very hot. Sear the beef in two batches for 2–3 minutes, then remove.
  3. Add remaining oil, peppers and onion; stir-fry for 5 minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes, garlic and remaining seasoning. Cook for 2 minutes, then return the beef for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Finish with lemon juice and serve immediately.
